Arsenal began their pre-season with a comfortable victory away at the Conference South side. Wenger began the match fielding a youthful starting XI with few experienced players, where as Boreham Wood began with what was believed to be their strongest squad to try and provide as much competition as possible.

Arsenal were showing domination of the possession within the first half although the likes of Yaya Sanogo who is still yet to have scored his first in an Arsenal shirt was still unable to provide the finishing to put Arsenal in the lead. Boreham Wood did battle for possession creating a few opportunities only to be shut down by the Arsenal defence. With the score going into Half-Time 0-0.

Wenger fielded a whole new squad after the interval.

The likes of Kieran Gibbs, Tomas Rosicky, Flamini and injury prone Abou Diaby getting a run out on the Meadow Park pitch.

18-year-old Chuba Akpom also a Half-time substitute showed his desire to break through to the first team with quick runs and coming close twice early in the second half.

Two of the Half-Time substitutes linked together with Rosicky chipping a perfect throughball into the path of Arsenal’s Swedish midfielder Kris Olsson who dinked the ball over the Boreham Wood keeper making it 1-0 to Arsenal.

Both teams continued their battles, but Arsenal made another breakthrough only 4 minutes from time.

Chuba Akpom made a superb run down the left wing. With a sublime piece of skill Akpom wrong footed two Boreham Wood defenders and was able to cross the ball in to Afobe in the box. Although Afobe was pushed in the area leading to the referee giving a penalty. Afobe converted from the spot making it 2-0 Arsenal.

The Full-Time whistle blew and Arsenal had completed their first pre-season match. Next match is in New York against Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s New York Red Bulls.
